Sevens and Cherries - Win and Lose

Sevens and cherries are iconic images of vintage casino slot machines. Slot machines are designed and programmed to encourage continued play through winning and losing streaks, with the latter more common. I created the seven and cherries in a digital drawing program for my work over 20 years ago. The numbers burst out of the images, implying calculations and accumulations of wins and losses. Inkjet prints of the original digital drawings offer a clean, flat, high-contrast image that can be printed in different sizes. Recently, I finally translated these drawings into paintings. After struggling with surface choice, I selected an aluminum sheet mounted on an acrylic support (Alumacomp). The metallic aluminum surface speaks to the mechanical nature of slot machines and amplifies the paint's iridescence. I want to continue adding to this series and include other iconic slot machine images, such as the bar and plum symbols.
